Useful Expressions #8:

Occasionally, we see someone trying to do something, something that we are pretty
sure won't work. For example, maybe your friend is trying to open the pickel jar with a srew-driver. You know that it isn't going to work, so you suggest wrapping some
rubber-bands around the lid of the jar to give him some leverage. And this is an
expression that can help you begin your suggestion:

"If that doesn't work, ..."

「じゃなかったら」

Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Useful Expressions #7:

I have a few friends, they know who they are, who like to talk and never get to
the point. Sometimes, you just have to stop them and paraphrase what they have
said so that you can get on with the rest of the evening. Here's an expression
that will help you with that:

"In other words,..."

「...って言うか」

You don't have any friends like that, do you?

Useful Expressions #6:

Here's an easy one to remember (The Japanese and the English aren't
so very different) but a hard one to use if you are like me:

"I'm going to pass on dessert."

デザートはパス

I really like my desserts! How about you?

Useful Expressions #5:

This is something you can say about one of those cute couples that you know.
You know, the ones that seem to be complete opposites but somehow their relationship still works.

"They make a perfect couple; they really balance each other out."

「あの二人、たして2で割ってちょうどいいね」

How many perfect couples do you know?

Useful Expressions #4:

This is something you can say after you've said something
that you probably shouldn't have:

"It was a slip of the tongue."

「つい口が滑ったんだ」

How many of you say things that you wish you hadn't?
